Landscaping Price List Template

Small business owners spend around 16 hours a week on admin — two full working days.

Source: Time etc research

For a lawn and landscape crew those hours land in the worst possible place: the evenings and weekends in season, when the daylight you are not working is the only daylight you get. Fixed pricing for mowing, cleanups, mulch and maintenance plans is the part of that you can delete outright.

Starter rates for mowing, cleanups, mulch, trimming and seasonal plans, calibrated to WV/PA. Edit anything and we will email you the spreadsheet.

Prices below are calibrated to West Virginia and Pennsylvania — the cheapest end of the national range. Pick your state and we'll adjust them.

Where should we send it?

We'll email your 7-item list as a spreadsheet you can open in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. It's yours to keep whether or not you ever use Anvil.

How we set these numbers

The base numbers are calibrated to the WV/PA tristate area — which happens to be near the cheapest end of the national range. Pick your state and we adjust them using BLS wage data for the four occupations these trades actually employ.

Labor-led work moves most. Mowing in Massachusetts runs about a third above the baseline; a furnace install moves half as much, because the equipment costs the same everywhere and only the crew changes. The materials part of that is estimated, not measured — real per-state material indexes exist but are sold, not published.

It is a starting point, not advice. A state average says nothing about your costs, your crew or your reputation — so change every number before you quote real work, and tell us if we have got something badly wrong: we would rather know.

Landscaping pricing questions, answered

How much should I charge to mow a lawn?

About $50 per visit for a standard residential lot, with a minimum you do not break. The mistake is pricing the mow alone — price the route. A $50 lawn with four neighbours on the same street is worth more than a $70 lawn twenty minutes away.

How do I price mulch installation?

$85 per cubic yard installed, covering material and labor. That is roughly a 50–55% margin, thinner than most of your other services because material is a real share of the cost. Measure beds and quote in yards rather than eyeballing a flat number.

What should a spring or fall cleanup cost?

Around $350 for an average property, priced as a job. Cleanups vary more than any other service you sell — a property with six mature oaks is not the same job as one with two maples — so walk it before quoting.

Are seasonal maintenance plans worth it?

Yes. Around $200 a month, billed year-round, converts your worst months into paid ones and stops you re-selling the same customer every spring. It is the single biggest change most lawn businesses can make to their cash flow.

What profit margin should landscaping run?

60–67% on service work like mowing, trimming and cleanups. Material-heavy work — mulch, sod — sits nearer 50–55%. Blended, a healthy operation lands around 60%.

Where these numbers come from

They are the starter lists built into Anvil when you pick a trade — not figures written for this page. Treat them as a starting point rather than advice: what you can charge depends on your market, your costs and your reputation, and you should change them before you quote anything.
